Two-hours drive south from Rio sits this coastal region with a 365-island archipelago. Angra dos Reis, or Angra to its friends, is one of the Costa Verde´s (Green Coast) best places for city-dwellers to lose themselves. Many Cariocas (Rio residents) have houses in the Angra region, both on the mainland and in the archipelago. A few of the islands are privately owned and appear on the market from time to time. With deserted icing sugar sands at every turn it is little surprise that many make Angra their home from home in the Tropics.
Paraty - This understated, underrated and pleasantly underdeveloped town on the Costa Verde just south of Angra is an architectural gem that feels frozen in time. The UNESCO World Heritage town preserves its heritage with sympathetic renovations of existing buildings. As such, the whole town has remained largely unchanged for two and a half centuries and its charm has begun to attract discerning visitors.
